In sports there are often “great stories about teams and players” and also “stories about great teams and players.” While similar, they are not the same. The story of the GU17 Cold Spring Harbor ISA-United team winning the WAGS Tournament is the latter, a story about a GREAT TEAM and its players.
After a sluggish lack-luster performance in WAGS GAME #1 vs. Virginia Nike Rush (the team that previously beat the ISA-United in the semi-finals of the 2006 Disney Showcase Tournament) which resulted in a 1-3 loss for ISA-United, they displayed the character that only great team’s and players’ possess. Alexis Parrotta’s (the “Magician”) in this game may not have won the game, but it was a sign of good things to come from her and her TEAM. Simply put, the ISA-United proved that “heart and desire do indeed yield success.”
It all started with GAME #2 vs. Arundel Illusion (MD) where ISA-United battered the opponent with dozens of shots and attacking drives. Dani Murino and Melanie Rigo opened and closed the scoring for ISA-United helping the team start its path to victory. Although the wave of attacks only resulted in a 2-0 scoreline in favor of ISA-United, the girls were determined to ATTACK and ATTACK some more. A previously disappointed ISA-United was now back in the running for a championship!
