INTENSE SOCCER ACADEMY - PREMIER TEAMS
Over the years, our coaches and trainers have interacted with top players, coaches and clubs across both the United States and Europe. Our experiences have shown us that a strong club structure, consistent development philosophy and integrated learning environment will substantially increase player development. In preparing a club model for ISA, we set forth a structure that we feel best captures those elements and provides incentive to players of all levels. Ultimately, our coaches and players desire to climb up the ranks with the eventual hopes and dreams of playing for a top college soccer program, getting a great education and playing for the United States National Team. Our model is best diagramed as follows:
Over the years ISA has developed a reputation for developing nationally competitive and recognized teams and players. Several ISA-trained players have been fortunate enough to have been selected to play for the US National Team, Regional ODP Team, State ODP Team, and nationally competitive academy teams. Our program is designed to prepare players for the challenges at the next level, whether that may be within the ODP structure or a top collegiate soccer program. For these reasons, we believe that being selected for an Academy Team is a tremendous honor, as the process is highly selective and can be very rewarding. Players enter and leave the program at varying stages of their youth soccer days. Some enter the ISA training program though our Mini-Academy program for players ages U5 - U9. Others enter our program via selection to a Developmental Academy Team for players ages U10 - U13. And yet some players enter the program further down the road via selection to our Academy Teams for players ages U14-U19. Regardless of what age you enter the ISA training program, you become part of a growing tradition of great players, teams and families.
Ages U5-U9 - "Mini-Academy"
This is where it all begins. During these years, ISA trains a very broad base of players from all parts of Long Island and offers a wide array of general clinics and camps designed to give players a strong foundation to build upon. Emphasis is placed on the individual and much of the curriculum involves (i) getting comfortable with the ball, (ii) dribbling, driving and running with the ball, (iii) learning the importance of keeping your head up, (iv) development of self-confidence and 1v1 attacking/defending confidence, (v) game-related activities, and (vi) an intro to core fundamentals (i.e., passing, shooting). Players are encouraged to stay with the ball and to be creative.
Ages U10-U13 - "Developmental Academy" These are the most crucial years for a player's individual "Technical Development." ISA places a tremendous amount of importance on developing exceptionally technical players and good thinkers on the ball, and these years have proven to be the most vital. Developing winning teams requires coaches to develop players that are winners. To develop winners, we believe that a strong emphasis must be placed on developing players that are confident in attacking their opponent and poised enough to control attackers while on defense. For these reasons, finite precision is demanded from our players in the areas of (i) dribbling, driving, turning, (ii) 1v1 attacking moves, (iii) passing and receiving with different surfaces of the foot, (iv) shooting, (v) checking movements, (vi) scanning the field, and (vii) other finite skills. It is expected that by the age of 13 that Academy players have pronounced themselves as ahead of their peers on a technical level.
Ages U14-U19 - "Academy" After acquiring a strong technical foundation, we are now ready to put demands on the players in achieving the desired results by playing an "ISA Game-Style." For years, ISA has been known for developing players and teams that demonstrate tremendous confidence on the ball and ability to retain possession against opponents applying the heaviest of defensive pressure. At these ages, technical development is continued but there is a significant shift towards developing each player's "Tactical", "Physical" and "Psychological" aspects. Players will experience (i) playing in different formations, (ii) physical fitness testing, and (iii) increased responsibility. We are totally committed to giving ownership of the team to the players at these ages and take more of a manipulative role in modifying the environment so as to challenge their ability to overcome obstacles. Players are required to mentally prepare for their performances more than in the past, monitor their diets, perform their off-day training program, accept responsibility for failure to carry out their tasks and responsibilities (on and off of the field), manage internal social issues amongst teammates, and accept more demands from the coach. We feel this approach best prepares players for progression into the College and National Team programs and enables them to meet demands at the next level.
